Some Examples of Practical Application of Math

quicksilvertrance-tt:

I am not a math wizard, a number whiz, or plainly put, a genius when it comes to such right-brained subjects. But I know a lot of people who are just that. And it’s not that I am a complete dolt when it comes to math, either. Up until this year I had always been in advance math classes and even this year, while I am not in intensive, it’s equal to AP math in public schools. Which means I must put those long years of studying matrices, basic trigonometry (sine, cosine, tangent… or as some like to see it, SOHCAHTOA, Sacajawea’s ugly stepsister), quadratics, etc., etc. to some use, right?

And I have. Here is a list of some of my recent accomplishments:

1. I quit playing Mafia Wars for a while and so everyone else got really high up on the food chain while I continued to stay as backwater. Therefore, I used math to maximize my earnings and efficiency to go from around level 50 to over level 100 (that’s double there) in under a month. That is what you’d call killer skills.

2. Same goes for Farm Town… I did a few calculations and voilà! Ain’t she a beauty?

3. I calculate (albeit subconsciously) how to procrastinate. But not just procrastinate. How to procrastinate effectively.

4. Our school has a huge campus. And it rains a lot. This is where Pythagoras comes in. (Okay fine, that wasn’t much of a calculation, but still…!)

5. Um… I don’t know. But I’ll get back to you on this. I’m sure there are tons of other ways math can be applied. Like figuring out how much you’d need to get on a test to maintain your A. And what is the possibility of getting that. And how to “manage time” (a.k.a. how much time do I have on the bus before school?, etc.) to get that last bit of studying in.

I will admit, math is everywhere. I will also admit that I am not liking that.

Okay, fine… math can be interesting. Like when you’re sad or don’t want to write that English essay because you are a “perfectionist” like me, then you go and do math homework. Which reminds me… I need to go finish my French conjugations and translations. Oh boy!

KILLER SKILLS! HAHAHAHA! :D Thank you for making my day.
